Everyone keeps on thinking that when we're watching the younger crybaby that it's a different version of him, but it's actually the beginning of how he dies. When he makes the call, he turns his head to look at some oncoming headlights, and then it cuts to the scene of the car crash, with Crybaby (quite obviously) as a ghost. If you pause, you can see a leg and hand in the corners of the screen. Those are *Crybaby's* limbs. I see theories here about how Toughguy can both see ghosts and how they died, which is wrong. Toughguy can only see ghosts. He's not actually watching Crybaby's death, he's remembering it. He was actually there when Crybaby died, he watched it happen.

I remember the first time i saw this i was like: "ooh, romantic and calm, niiice" and then at 0:25 I was like: WaIT wHAT edit: omg i never had so many likes *googles "how to handle fame"*

so he got hit by a car 😞, I think my heart just cracked a little

Oh my god I have a theory. So in the beginning around 0:09 I'm guessing, there was a clock with a heart beat that stops. Which obviously is a sign of death. And later on when crybaby was filling the pay phone while the lyrics said a" hoarder a quarter'' ( 0:16 )the next few frames are multiplied twice. so three of each picture Which I'm guessing is a time slip. A few seconds further when toughguy and crybaby are sitting on the bench laughing crybaby dissapears into a ghastly like figure and under him a picture (pretty sure a picture of him) and the next scene as you see ,is of toughguy walking down a block. ( 0:24 ) Then he pauses and there is other "ghost" around him that pretty sure are dead... Obvi.. and right after he sees another pay phone but then crybaby which know seems to be around 5-8 years old picks up the phone but right after he looks to the right were a light is shown. The next scene is of crybaby crying on the ground but one of Crybaby's eyes seem to be missing and during that I figure of young toughguy offers a hand to him, and behind them was the original toughguy sitting down on a bench. ( 0:34 - 0:38 ) and after all that.everything goes back to normal. So in conclusion crybaby must've died at a young age from a car accident or something and the payphone is a time machine. But since clearly crybaby most of the time seems to be an adult the payphone must also be a multi verse thing. And tough guy keeps getting stuck in the time slips to be with crybaby Thank you for reading if you made it this far :)

it's interesting on how only one of the ghosts/spirits/ghouls during the "i can tell that your drinking eyes never open" part has eyes and isn't looking at toughguy at all. but on what's in front of them. us.

Edit: I meant Crybaby and Toughguy Based off the clock and the animation I kind of made a theory and put together a crap story line 0:00 At first Dario seems not to be expecting the call while Garret almost seems scared that Dario might not pick up so this could mean that this is the first time Garret has tried to contact Dario (this could be backed up by Dario having "???" Show up on his phone in the start). The tears In Garret's eyes make it seem like he has been alone or at lest without Dario for a while hence they are over joyed to see each other after so long, hinting that they may have lost touch. 0:08 The quick section with the heart monitor going flat as the clock hits midnight could be due to after midnight the sun starts to rise and ghost can't be out during the day 0:24 It later switches back to them but the clock is a little passed midnight signifying that it is time for Garret to go and their time together has been used up for the night, kind of like how you use up all our minutes you paid for on a pay phone 0:12 So when it switches to them eating a McDonald's it signifies that there has been a time change because there was no food in the first scene. Then there is the fact that the food portions is for one person and we see Dario eating it while Garret just helps out indicating that for some reason Garret can't physically eat the food (a for shadowing of his death) 0:17 And the next scene seems to support my theory of a time change because it shows Garret paying money to the phone machine multiple times as to speak with Dario (maybe to open some kind of connection) and at a little passed midnight each time, his minutes runs out forcing him to return which is confirmed when we see Garret turn into a spirit/soul and float away at a little passed midnight 0:28 Next we can see Dario walking down a sketchy street when the back drop flashes to what seems to be people who have passed in not so pleasant ways, the neon purple swirls are also linked to ghosts/spirits which conferms the fact that thoes people are dead + Dario is seen to be physically disturbed by this fact, indicating that he involuntarily see these ghost and that doing so bothers him. This is confirmed in the next scene where we see Dario standing to the side as he watches a younger Garret (property around age 5-7) try and ring up some one. 0:35 The next part is pretty self explanatory and gives us some details of how Gerret died via car crash. Then we see a younger Dario help Garret up conferming that Dario can see the dead and when it shifts focus to older Dario we can assume that Dario can not only see dead people but how thoes people died and has likely been able to do so from a young age 0:31 Taking that fact that when Dario saw younger Garret try and call someone his face was blanked out and when the focus shiftes back to older Dario after the back story he had no major expression on his face, we can assume that he doesn't get to control what he sees and has probably seen Garret's death so many times to the point it no longer bothers him 0:42 Lastly the only reason I can think of for Garret to still be "???" on Dario's phone is that Dario saved it that way. + New edit: it’s weird how younger Toughguy is able to easily communicate with Crybaby while the older pair need a sheared physical object (the phones) to jumpstart their together time. This puls the colours being more bold/brighter when they where younger could indicate that communication with the dead is easier when the dead is “fresh” as there may be more of them present(weather it’s their physical body or “fresh” spirit/soul). However this could also mean that as time goes on the dead have less presence (due to bodies being removed, souls/spirits and eroding due to time) making communication difficult. This could be why Toughguy sets up a picture of Crybaby on the bench as to preserve his spirit and keep him around for just a bit longer before they have to let go. At last we get are sweet fluff after this Asia sized piece of angst. Idk how much of this is actually in anyways close to right but meh.

Maybe they both met as kids, after crybabys car crash, and as they grew up they dated bc they obviously like each other lol but then crybaby died from past injuries that only got worse from the crash (if that makes since?) and so tough guy calls crybabys number to hear crybabys voicemail, or something, to feel like crybaby is still there with him Im not saying im right, this is just my theory.
